Eetha locks release date
The makers recently confirmed that
Eetha will hit theatres worldwide on August 28, 2026. At the heart of
Eetha is the story of legendary Tamasha performer Vithabai Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra's most celebrated folk artists. The film is reportedly inspired by her remarkable life journey and spans five decades, from the 1940s to the 1990s. It chronicles her rise to fame, artistic achievements, personal struggles and lasting impact on Maharashtra's culture.
According to reports in
Mid-Day,
Shraddha Kapoor completed filming for
Eetha in May this year. The final schedule concluded with a grand montage song sequence shot in Bhor, Maharashtra. The large-scale sequence reportedly featured nearly 800 background performers and is expected to serve as an emotional centerpiece in the film. The montage is said to depict the transformative journey of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, tracing her evolution from her early years to superstardom and eventually the challenges she faced later in life. The film's production reportedly lasted around 60 days, with principal photography beginning in March and spanning multiple locations across Maharashtra. To authentically recreate different phases of Vithabai's life, the team filmed across several locations including Madh Island in Mumbai, Solapur, Aundhewadi, Satara, Nashik, and Bhor. Acclaimed choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant is said to have designed the film's elaborate dance sequences, including the concluding montage number.
Why Laxman Utekar chose Shraddha Kapoor
Another Mid-Day report said that one of the reasons Laxman Utekar cast Shraddha Kapoor was her deep connection to Maharashtrian culture. The actress' mother, Shivangi Kolhapure, comes from a Maharashtrian family, and Shraddha grew up surrounded by the state's traditions and customs. This cultural familiarity is believed to have played a significant role in helping her connect with the character. Shraddha also sustained a fracture during the Nashik schedule of the film.
Additionally, because dance was central to Vithabai Narayangaonkar's life, Shraddha reportedly trained extensively in traditional Maharashtrian dance forms, including Lavani and Gavlan. Both dance styles are closely associated with Tamasha, the popular folk theatre form that blends storytelling, music, satire, and dance. Apart from Shraddha Kapoor,
Eetha also features Randeep Hooda and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles.
