After
HBO announced that the second season of Harry Potter was renewed and in production, fans have been searching the internet for clues about the new cast members that will join the season. One of the rumoured names is Grey's Anatomy actor Kevin McKidd, who recently departed from the ABC medical drama after 18 seasons. Is the Scottish actor ready to play Ron Weasley's father Arthur in the new reboot series? McKidd addressed the rumours and revealed he was previously offered a role in the final two Harry Potter films.
Kevin McKidd to play Arthur Weasley in HBO's Harry Potter?
In an interview with
Entertainment Weekly, McKidd shared he had seen the speculation about him joining the
Harry Potter universe. He stated that he "would never say never" to the franchise as he was a massive Harry Potter fan. In fact, years ago, director David Yates had sent him a letter offering a role in the final two
Harry Potter films,
The Deathly Hallows. But unfortunately, he was unable to do it because he was waiting for his other series
Journeyman to be renewed for another season. It was not. The role was that of a werewolf character, likely Fenrir Greyback, which Dave Legeno went on to play. Instead, McKidd joined the cast of
Grey's Anatomy as Dr Owen Hunt, where he stayed for 18 seasons and directed several episodes, including his final one. So why was there speculation that McKidd would be part of the new
Harry Potter? Fans noticed that actress Gracie Cochrane, who plays Ginny Weasley on the show, began following McKidd on Instagram. The family resemblance is noticeable. The actor did not give a definitive answer. Instead, he shared that he would be "excited" to get another chance at the universe. McKidd added, "So listen, if those rumors can turn into something real, I would be very happy about that."
