OpenAI has officially rolled out its ChatGPT Go plan for free in India for one full year, starting today, November 4. The offer is open to anyone in India who signs up during the promotional window; however, while excitement around the offer is high, many users on social media have already begun reporting issues while activating the plan. According to posts online, payment attempts are failing even when valid UPI and card details are entered. This rollout comes shortly after OpenAI teased the offer last week, and India is among the first regions to receive it, a move that clearly highlights the company’s growing focus on the Indian user base. Why Are Payment Failures Happening?Interestingly, even though the plan is free for a year, a valid payment method
still needs to be added as part of account verification. But for many users, the process seems to be stuck at the payment stage, ending with a “Payment failed” message. Reports suggest these failures could be linked to extremely high traffic right after the promo launch, as thousands rush to grab the free upgrade. Times Now Tech has reached out to OpenAI for an official response and we’ll update this story once a statement is received.
Why India Is Getting This OfferIndia has quickly become one of the fastest-growing markets for ChatGPT. Reports earlier this year indicated that paid ChatGPT subscriptions in India doubled within a month of their rollout. The free Go plan offer also aligns with OpenAI’s first India-focused event, the DevDay Exchange in Bengaluru happening today. By offering this plan for free, OpenAI is clearly aiming to deepen engagement and reward what it calls India’s “enthusiasm and creativity” in AI adoption.ALSO READ: How To Get ChatGPT Go Subscription For Free For One Year: Check This Simple Step-By-Step GuideHow To Activate The Free PlanTo claim the offer, users simply need to head to the ChatGPT app or website, choose the Go plan, and verify with a credit/debit card or UPI.
