Ever since Deepika Padukone opted out of a couple of big projects due to her alleged demand to work for only eight hours after becoming a mother, a big 8-hour shift debate started in the industry. Sagar Parekh feels that people are only keeping women in mind when they talk about 8-hour shifts. However, men also deserve an equal amount of treatment, according to the Anupamaa actor. In an exclusive interview with Zoom/Telly Talk India, Sagar Parekh confessed that work-life balance shouldn’t depend on gender.
Sagar Parekh weighs in on 8-hour shift debate for male actors
During a candid conversation with us, Sagar Parekh reacted to Kinshuk Vaidya’s decision to cut down his working hour after becoming a father to a baby boy. Sagar supported his decision but also mentioned that TV demands more hours to fulfil the daily commitments of the channel. When asked if it is unfair towards male actors as they are not considered in the 8-hour shift debate, Sagar Parekh said that they (men) also have families and responsibilities. The actor understands the demands of a profession, but if people are talking about equality, men shouldn’t be ignored from the debate.

Jagriti – Ek Nayi Subah star said, “I always find it interesting. The conversations are linked to female actors only. Honestly, work-life balance shouldn't depend on gender. Male actors also have families and responsibilities. If the industry is talking about equality, it should be equal on all sides. At the same time, the actors should be practical about the nature of TV. It's not a 9-to-5 corporate job.”
Unsaid rule for men in showbiz
Sagar Parekh also revealed that
there is an unsaid rule for men in showbiz. He said, “There is an unsaid rule for male actors that they should keep working without questioning the hours. Nobody really talks about their work-life balance, because it is always assumed that they will manage. But the truth is, they also feel pressure. Will television manage to work with fixed working hours for actors?
