Miss Universe Sushmita Sen has long been celebrated for her fearless decisions and unconventional life choices. At the age of 24, she adopted her first daughter, Renee, and in 2010, she expanded her family by adopting her younger daughter, Alisah. Since then, the stunning actress has taken on both parental roles with remarkable dedication, raising her girls on her own and surrounding them with love, security, and strength. On her birthday, let's take a look at one of her old interviews where she opened up about her deeply meaningful and empowering experience as a mother.
Sushmita Sen on Her Gratifying Motherhood Journey
In a conversation with ETimes, Sushmita opened up about her evolution as a mother. The proud mom shared that she truly believes in appreciating herself for the effort she has put in over the years. She said: “I want to give myself a pat on my back as a mother everyday. That’s self-love. I am not someone who has to be told ki aap kitni achchi maa hai. I already know that (smiles)!”She spoke lovingly about how motherhood has shaped her, calling it a deeply rewarding experience.Facing Challenges Alone, Finding Purpose in Motherhood
Sushmita also reflected on the difficulties she encountered while raising her daughters entirely on her own. She shared that despite her celebrity status, the responsibilities did not get any easier. In fact, the expectations were sometimes even higher. She said: “Being a parent was a different experience at different age groups. It was challenging throughout because I have done it alone. And so, the perception that ‘Oh! She is Sushmita Sen, and she can do it,’ is not true. It is harder to be me and do it. It has been a very gratifying experience. I often say that I am as old as my children, so it is not like I know more than them; I am learning everyday with them. Being a mother has given me a sense of purpose. It’s far greater than being a creative artiste and far greater than anything else I have done in my life. It gives me this feeling that something will live on as love after you are done and dusted.”Her words beautifully describe how motherhood grounded her, taught her, and became her greatest source of purpose and pride. Sushmita Sen has always been an inspiration, from mesmerising us with her acting skills to being a devoted mother and balancing her work with effortless grace. On the work front, Sushmita’s last project was Aarya – Antim Vaar, the final season of the Disney+ Hotstar series Aarya, which released in 2024. Before that, she starred in the 2023 series Taali, where she portrayed transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.Do you find this article useful?
