Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in West Bengal from 23 to 29 April 2026, and ahead of t, the Calcutta High Court dismissed the petition against the Bengali film Korpur, starring Rituparna Sengupta, marking a significant development amid the politically charged atmosphere. The film was released on March 19, 2026, but the screenings were halted afterwards. Now, the court not only allowed the release of the film but also emphasised the key legal principles applicable to public interest litigation, particularly questioning the validity of petitions filed by non-residents on state-specific issues. For the unversed, this controversy started from allegations that the film, featuring TMC leaders like Bratya Basu and Kunal Ghosh,
could influence voters. But now that the High Court has dismissed the petition, TMC's Kunal Ghosh shared a message, calling out those who went against the film.

"In a legal victory for Korpur, the High Court has ruled that there is no restriction on the film’s screening following the court’s directive. Recently, a petition had been filed in the High Court seeking to halt the exhibition of Karpur. The case was filed by Gopal Samanta, who argued that the film violates the Model Code of Conduct. He claimed that releasing the film during the election period could influence voters, as it features Bratya Basu and Kunal Ghosh, who are candidates of the Trinamool Congress in the ongoing elections. Based on this, he requested an immediate stay on the film’s release."'
