The
Devil Wears Prada is getting its sequel after 20 years. As the countdown to its May 1 release began, Karan Johar sat down with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway for a fun interaction. During the interaction, the veterans discussed films, fashion and returning with The Devil Wears Prada 2 in a completely new era and tackling changed audience content consumption patterns. While talking to Meryl, Karan recalled channelling Miranda Priestly at the workplace. Streep, who played the iconic character in the 2003 film, reacted to his query for her.
Karan Johar impresses Meryl Streep
During the interaction for
The Devil Wears Prada 2,
Karan asked Meryl whether being
Miranda Priestly at work is a problem. She reacted, “You should not be worried. Miranda is not everybody’s idea of a role model for a good boss. I think she is someone who is credibly and reliably and respectfully in charge of the people and she takes her job seriously. She loves working.” Johar replied, “Where else can you see dance, laugh and cry and still be at work? That’s what we do in Bollywood.”
Karan Johar's iconic moment with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway
On April 7, Karan shared pictures with Meryl and Anne on Instagram. Posting them, he confessed being ‘singularly obsessed and inspired by the unmatchable brilliance’ of
Meryl Streep. Calling her his guru in the art of acting and portraying characters across cinema, the Bollywood filmmaker remembered watching The Devil Wears Prada not less than 47 times. His caption read, “I have quoted it at dinner tables, in edit suites and in board meetings (no kidding!) So when I tell you that standing next to HER & them today, I felt the ground shift, please believe me. I tried very hard to be calm and composed but here’s another confession - my knees were RATTLING!” Concluding the note, Johar mentioned that Meryl and
Anne were warm and welcoming. His caption ended with, “That’s all”.
