In
a shocking incident, actress Akshaya Hariharan shared that someone else had voted in her name when she went to the polling booth to vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026. Akshaya detailed her harrowing experience in a video and later raised an official complaint after putting in an alternate vote. Tagging the official authorities, she urged her followers to spread the news and cast their votes to cancel out the fake votes. The actress' plight highlighted the difficulties many citizens faced while going to the polling booths. Earlier, Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee had shared that her name was missing from the West Bengal Elections 2026 list.
Akshaya Hariharan's polling booth experience
On X (formerly Twitter), Akshaya first posted that someone had cast her vote, claiming to be a 24-year-old but with a fingerprint. Later, she uploaded a video taking her fans through her ordeal. She shared that she was from Velachery, Tamil Nadu and hadn't received her voting slip. But she knew where her polling booth was, so she went to Adiyar, where she waited in line only to find out that someone had already voted in her name.
She alleged that there was another photo of a woman who claimed to be 24 and they put a fingerprint on it. The names were the same but the photos were difficult. Akshaya called out the authorities to check properly because someone else should not have been allowed to vote in her stead.
What happened next
After waiting for a long time, Akshaya was able to cast her tender ballot vote or challenge vote. However, the Saba Nayagan actress shared that she was not sure about it. First, she didn't find it appropriate because the paper was not sealed in front of her. She asked in her video in Tamil and English, "How can you let things like this happen in the first place? No one had answers to my questions."
While a few lawyers had later contacted her, the actress shared that she was going to raise a complaint at the nearest RO office. They had assured her that her tendered vote would be transported "sealed and safe." On Instagram, Akshaya also added, "This is the best I could do though. Please don't waste your vote. You still have time."
