After
a lot of waiting and excitement, the movieDacoit, starring Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur, and Anurag Kashyap, finally hit theaters. However, the movie's opening day numbers haven't lived up to the hype before it came out. The film's release was postponed from March 19, to avert clash with Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. However, on the opening day, Dacoit took a slow start despite a 4 week gap between both the films.
Dacoit Box Office Collection Day 1
According to early box office estimates reported by industry tracker Sacnilk,
Dacoit collected Rs 6.5 crore on day one. Despite being a fresh release, it faced strong competition from Ranveer Singh’s
Dhurandhar 2, which is already in its fourth week yet managed to pull in Rs 5.23 crore, edging ahead of Dacoit. With the opening falling short of expectations, the film now depends heavily on weekend growth to stabilise its run.
Speaking about the film's global collection, Dacoit has grossed a total of Rs 6.00 Cr in overseas collections. With this, the movie's total worldwide gross collection is reportedly Rs 13.57 crore.Compared to recent releases, Dacoit has started lower than Anaganaga Oka Raju, which opened at Rs 5.5 crore, and the Hindi war drama Ikkis, which registered Rs 7 crore on its first day. This puts added pressure on the film to pick up momentum over the next few days.
What we know about Dacoit?
Directed by debutant Shaneil Deo, the film features Adivi Sesh as a cop and revolves around two former lovers who are forced to team up for a string of high-stakes robberies. Alongside the lead pair, the film also stars Prakash Raj, Zayn Marie Khan, Kamakshi Bhaskarla, Atul Kulkarni and others.
The film Dacoit was originally planned to release on March 19, however, the makers chose to postpone the film to avoid a box office clash with big-ticket releases like
Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Adivi Sesh himself had acknowledged that such films operate on a different scale, making direct competition difficult.
Adivi Sesh on delay in Dacoit release
In his previous interaction with media during
Dacoit trailer launch event, Adivi Sesh revealed that Dacoit was initially planned for a March 19 release around Ugadi, which worked well for the South market, but the team held back due to lack of proper showcasing. He shared that with Aditya Dhar’s
Dhurandhar 2 dominating screens, they decided to wait until distributors assured them of better screen count, show timings, and theatre placement, after which April 10 was locked.Dismissing any concerns about competition from Ranveer Singh’s film, Sesh said Dhurandhar 2 is a massive success that will continue its run for the next 3 to 4 months and rightfully so, adding that there is enough space for all kinds of films to coexist at the box office.
