Saumya Tandon on Dhurandhar slap scene with Akshaye Khanna
Spilling beans about the execution of her
Dhurandhar slap scene with Akshaye, the actress said, "As far as the execution of the scene is concerned, there was a long shot in which I did not slap him for real. There was a close-up of mine in which I did not slap him for real. There was a close-up of him in which I tried cheat slapping him. That's when Aditya came and told me that you'll have to go for it for real because we'll have to keep repeating it because it's a close magnification and you cannot cheat it. So, you have to go for it. So in his close-(up), I really slapped him."
The actress further revealed how her breakdown scene also happened in just one take. "And when I really break down in my close-up, that scene was also in one take. Because when I told Aditya I wanted to do it again, he said it was real and raw and if you go for it again, it might not be as good. So, it just happened once. But there are different magnifications in which you have to give that cues. But the real breakdown scene and the real slap in the close-ups was just once."
Why did Saumya Tandon slap Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar?
Apart from discussing the scene's execution, Saumya revealed why her character Ulfat slapped Akshaye's Rehman Dakait in
Dhurandhar. "The slap scene which has gone viral is a very complex scene actually because the parents have lost their son and the wife gets the news of it. She is extremely angry with her husband because she knows that her husband is a don. It is because of the life choices that the husband has made and because of the gang wars that the husband has been a part of, that is the reason why she lost her child. So, she is very angry with and she is angry that even though you are a don, you could not save my child. So, the first reaction of hers was that she's extremely angry with the husband," revealed Saumya.
The actress added that her character's anger later turned into helplessness as she didn't know what to do. Saumya recalled how she had to scream and break down to portray the outburst of pain."When they (Ulfat and Rehman) hug each other, they know that both of them have a shared pain of losing a child. It is very complex scene without any dialogues but it says a lot."
Saumya Tandon credits Aditya Dhar for scene
On a concluding note, the actress credited Aditya Dhar for thinking of the scene without dialogues. "I would give credit to the director to think that there will be no dialogues exchanged, but it will say a lot about the chemistry that the two of them share. Also the fact that it will also communicate that though Rehman Dakait is a very big don but he respects and loves his wife and also that she has fiery and a strong character in his life," she said, and signed off.Meanwhile,
Dhurandhar will stream on Netflix after its theatrical run.
