Kaithi 2 has been in the discussion for several months now, an official update regarding its production status hasn't been announced yet. Addressing a question about the film's status and when the shoot will begin, Karthi said "I don't know..." In another promotional event, Karthi was asked when Kaithi 2 details will be given he said "will come..."This has disappointed fans and audiences who were keen on details of its official launch.

The first instalment in Lokesh Cinematic Universe, Kaithi revolves around Dilli, a prisoner who races against time to drive poisoned cops to a hospital while dodging criminals in exchange for meeting his daughter Amudha. Earlier, Karthi said the film Kaithi 2 would go on floors after the completion of Vijay's Leo (2023) which didn't take place. Reports also revealed that the film might begin after Rajinikanth's Coolie, which released in August 2025. But there have been no updates since then. Meanwhile Lokesh Kannagaraj has begun pre-production works for his seventh film which many fans predicted would be Kaithi 2, while reports also surfaced about Lokesh making his debut in the Telugu industry with Pawan Kalyan or Allu Arjun. With Karthi confirming that he is not aware of the film's status, it has been ruled out that Lokesh's L7 is a new film and not Kaithi 2.
