In a career spanning 65 years, the legendary actor has time and again been bestowed with several prestigious honours. And among the long list, his Lifetime Achievement Award by Filmfare shines bright. Such was the moment, that three of the industry's biggest icons came to present him with the Black lady. While the award was presented by Shah Rukh Khan, classic couple Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu gave him the trophy.

At the ceremony, while Shah Rukh Khan reminded audience how Dharmendra was the dicovery of Filmfare, Dilip Kumar claimed his desire to be as handsome as the Sholay actor.Dilip Kumar said on stage, "When I first saw Dharmendra, I felt a desire in my heart as to why God did not create me like him. He has such a beautiful, striking and healthy face. His eyes radiated such light. I believed an actor with such a simple personality could portray tragedies wonderfully. I believed in his success and Dharmendra always told me that he wondered whether he was in the right city and the right direction or not. I told him don't look back and just believe in yourself."

Filmfare's discovery

For the unversed, Dharmendra was the winner of Filmfare's nationally organised talent award. It was the magazine's first-ever talent hunt in 1958 that eventually landed him his first movie Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960. This made him relocate from Punjab to Mumbai (then Bombay).Dharmendra passed away on November 24 (Monday) after prolonged illness at age of 89.
