Filmmaker
Shawn Levy has backed Stranger Things since day one and believed in the vision of the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross. The Star Wars: Starfighter director has been an executive producer on the Netflix series since the first season. He has directed episodes on every season, despite having other filmmaking commitments in Hollywood. But did you know the Marvel filmmaker also had a cameo in Season 1? Can you guess who he played?
Shawn Levy Season 1 cameo In Stranger Things
In season one, episode four of
Stranger Things, titled
The Body, Levy has a small role as the morgue attendant. He has a small argument with Joyce Byers, played by Winona Ryder, and does not allow her to see the body of her son, Will Byers (Noah Byers). Incidentally, he was also a director on this episode. While this was his first cameo on
Stranger Things, Levy has acted in small parts in shows like
30 Rock, Beverly Hills, 90210, and
21 Jump Street.
Over five seasons of
Stranger Things, Levy has directed 10 episodes. At the world premiere of the Netflix series in November 2025, Levy remarked to
Deadline, "Like always, I direct two episodes every season, but because of Deadpool & Wolverine I couldn’t do 3 and 4 like I’ve done every year. So I directed 6, and I co-directed Episode 7 with the Duffer brothers, which is the first time that we’ve shared directing duties. It felt like a really fitting commemoration of this brotherhood the three of us have forged over the years." ALSO READ:

You can ask Matt and Ross. I Facetimed them from Star Wars in London weeping. I couldn’t get it together. That’s how moving this finale is. It really sticks the landing, and the brothers have just nailed it."Traditionally, Levy has always directed the third and fourth episodes of the previous seasons. For the final season, he has directed the sixth episode titled
Chapter Six: Escape from Camazotz and the seventh episode titled
