Kher graced the latest episode of Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar’s podcast Baatein Dil Se. In an exclusive conversation with Times Now, the veteran actor recalled how his role was cut in Jackie Shroff and Dimple Kapadia’s Kaash. He also opened up about the fallouts with Mahesh Bhatt and Naseeruddin Shah. Despite having differences with Bhatt, Anupam considers him the ‘Krishna’ of his life. He gives him credit for giving an opportunity to play the lead role in Saaransh. Anupam also said that he doesn’t have time to engage in arguments with anyone, as he feels there are a lot of things to do in life.
Anupam Kher on his fallout with Mahesh Bhatt
During a candid conversation with Navika Kumar, Anupam Kher recalled his argument with Mahesh Bhatt, who gave him a break in Bollywood. He said, “When you say what you want to say and what you think is right, the other person also has the liberty to say what he feels like. I never shy away from that. My first argument with Bhatt saab (Mahesh Bhatt) happened during the making of Kaash (starring Jackie Shroff and Dimple Kapadia). My role was equal, but when he watched the trial, he had to cut my role due to some pressure. Producers thought the love angle between me and Dimple wouldn't work. I went to fight with Bhatt saab.”
Anupam Kher told Mahesh Bhatt that he disappointed him by compromising with his vision. The actor stated, “I told him that what makes him different is that he sticks to things that you feel are right. But if he is going to compromise with it like other directors, what is so special about him? He may not like what I said to him, but he admires it. Despite the differences, I have always kept him above the issues of mine. Whatever I am today is because of him. If he had not made Saaransh, I would not have been sitting here. Saaransh gave me a way of life. Mahesh Bhatt is my Krishna. It is very difficult to be popular with everybody.”
How did Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah solve their issues?
Anupam Kher also confessed that he still gets starstruck with Naseeruddin Shah. He said, “He is the first star actor who came out of the drama school. Naseer and Om Puri were the first actors who got main roles in parallel cinema.” When asked about his past issues with Naseeruddin, the actor didn’t reveal much about it. However, he also said that they met each other at the prayer meet and resolved their issues.
Anupam Kher said, “I don't have time to engage in any fight or argument with anyone. There are a lot of things to do in life. Naseeruddin and I bumped into each other at Ratna Pathak's uncle's prayer meet. We hugged each other and buried the hatchets. There is a thin line between arrogance and self-respect.” Anupam Kher has done more than 550 films. He will next be seen in Khosla Ka Ghosla 2. Coming back to the podcast, the latest episode of Navika Kumar's show Baatein Dil Se is now streaming on the Times Now YouTube channel.
