From Sholay to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dharamji starred in memorable movies in a career spanning six decades. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on. At a recently held event, Hema Malini paid tribute to her late husband. Remembering him, the veteran actress got emotional. In her speech, Hemaji spoke about the legacy of a 'great man'.
Hema Malini remembers Dharmendra
Hema Malini recently attended the opening ceremony of Lens & Legacy: Bollywood in Focus at the National Gallery of Modern Art. During her speech, the senior actress stated that the tribute wasn't just a recognition of legendary actor Dharmendra's contribution to the film industry. In her opinion, it was also a tribute to his journey which was filled with passion, dedication and immense love for the audience.
She further recalled her late husband saying that 'film is a way to connect with heart'. The actress continued to mention that the Sholay actor was passionate about working in movies and being in front of the camera. Hemaji added that she knew how passionate her life partner was and that he touched everyone's hearts because of his performances. She stated that the late legendary actor inspired many people, including young generation, as an actor, father and friend."He was a great man. I am truly blessed to have been with him, but I miss him a lot now. He is no longer there, so I don't know how I am going to cope with the rest of my life," said Hema Malini.
For the unversed, Dharamji breathed his last on November 24, 2025 at his Mumbai residence. Two prayer meetings were held in memory of the late legendary actor - one in Delhi and the other in Mumbai. The veteran actress also held a Gita Paath at her residence in memory of her husband.

On the work front, the real-life partners, Hema Malini ad Dharmendra, worked in several movies. Apart from Sholay, the duo shared screen space in Seeta Aur Geeta, The Burning Train, Alibaba Aur 40 Chor, Raja Jani, and Naya Zamana. They got married in 1980 and were blessed with two daughters - Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
