Never thought that a man in a Hawaiian shirt could be that dangerous until I met Tommy Vercetti in GTA Vice City on a friend's PC around 16 years ago. His Aura, those flashy lights of Vice City, the cheat
codes (because PC works that way), and causing chaos in the city with weapons and vehicles - that was my first interaction with GTA or Grand Theft Auto. My journey with GTA started on a clanky keyboard and assembled PCs that hardly had the juice to run the older versions properly. And now, it has come to a point where I am on a rerun of GTA 5 on my PlayStation 5. Considering that GTA 6 is coming this year after a series of delays, I am happy but a little worried at the same time because I am not that kid anymore who will start jumping in joy with what he saw ten-twelve years ago. And I think most of the GTA enthusiasts will agree with me. On that note, here's my take on what I want to see in GTA 6 as a game and how Rockstar Games could again be the trendsetter, yet again.
GTA 6 Expectations: NPCs In Sync With Realism
GTA 5 was way ahead of its time in almost all senses, whether you talk about the story, the action, the features, the game nailed it in everything. However, two gameplay elements that I think if improved will definitely take the experience to the next level, are NPCs and dynamic region settings. For example, NPCs must react to the way a player is progressing in the game, like if I am a 6 star wanted criminal, then I should be able to see the fear in NPCs or at least the respect that stems from fear. And yes, dynamic region mechanics could be the USP of the game where things touch the base of realism, and we get to see shops closing, neighborhoods changing with years, and areas flourishing or decaying.
GTA 6 Expectations: Storytelling > Shock Value
GTA franchise has been a home of controversial comments, parodies, and other things that create shock value. Though Rockstar changed a lot of things in GTA 5 but I am expecting some maturity from GTA 6. See, GTA means shock value, and that's one of the major factors behind the game's popularity. But, this time, I want Rockstar to kill us with the story and then kiss goodbye with shock value - something that perfectly balances the two things. If not better, then the storytelling of GTA VI should at least match the level of shock value in the game (Yes, I am a Thanos admirer, I seek balance).
GTA 6 Expectations: Gameplay Affected By Choices, Not Cutscenes
If you have played GTA 5, then you exactly know what I am talking about here. Your choices in the game, or the dialogues you choose, or the character you choose will live, just change the cutscene, not the gameplay. This really needs to change in GTA 6 if the game wants to stand out. Remember
Red Dead Redemption 2? In this game by Rockstar, Honor changes how the world sees you, and that is reflected in the original game as well. Same in Detroit: Become Human, where your choices can wipe out entire characters and storylines from the game. If something on this note is added to GTA 6, it will break all the charts for sure.
GTA 6 Expectations: GTA Online Should Not Be A Cash Grab
GTA Online started as a part of the game that felt like a cocktail of chaos and unhinged behaviour. However, the game slowly transitioned it into a serious time and money-consuming product. It started feeling like a prison for those who didn't have both. With GTA 6 Online, GTA can set the record straight and let players enjoy the chaos as it is supposed to be, instead of getting trapped in a loop of filler missions.
On A Concluding Note
GTA 6 is just months away, and we have already seen two trailers - waiting for the third one, eagerly. The things I said I want to see in the game are most probably the things most of the GTA fans will want to see. What’s clear at this point in time is that GTA 6 is going to be one of the biggest games in history - both in terms of popularity and gameplay. And yes, GTA 6 is bringing the first ever female protagonist of the GTA franchise - Lucia. Furthermore, the way this game is being delayed, no wonder Rockstar Games will strike perfection - or at least something pretty close to that.
