Park Ji-Hoon announces military service
Park Ji-Hoon has shared new details about his upcoming military enlistment, revealing that he hopes to take on a more challenging role when he begins his mandatory service in 2027. The actor made the comments during a recent interview in Seoul’s Jongno District, while discussing his latest drama,
The Legend of Kitchen Soldier. Reflecting on the filming experience of the military-themed fantasy series, Park Ji-Hoon said the drama allowed him to get a small taste of military life. He recalled shooting training scenes in the mountains during winter and described carrying a rifle, crawling on the ground, and immersing himself in the role despite the harsh weather conditions.
When asked if his role as a military cook would be helpful during actual military service, the actor said the position has its own set of challenges. He explained that military cooks often start work earlier and finish later than others, and added that preparing food for a large number of soldiers would not be an easy task. Revealing that he is expected to begin military service in 2027, Ji-Hoon shared that rather than seeking an easier assignment, he expressed interest in applying for a special unit that requires volunteers and additional testing.“I want to try entering a special unit,” he said. “I think there would be a lot to learn there," he said. The actor specifically mentioned wanting to experience airborne training, rappelling from helicopters, and other demanding exercises. He also revealed an interest in serving in the Marine Corps or a reconnaissance unit. Park Ji-Hoon has insisted that he has no intention of postponing his military service. He believes it is best to complete his military service while he is physically able. He also dismissed concerns about a long break from entertainment, noting that many actors these days complete their projects before enlisting.
