Suparn S Varma on making Haq
In an interview with us, Suparn said, "I keep researching various subjects which kind of excite me, which are bigger or larger than life, which are of national in nature. Vishal (Gurnani) and Juhi (Parekh Mehta) talked to me about this subject. Initially, I kind of held back because I needed to be very clear about the kind of film I wish to make, which has to be very balanced. I had a certain idea that I wanted it to be very progressive in nature."
The Haq filmmaker further confessed, "I didn't want to hold back. I wanted to have conversations that liberal-minded people would love to engage in... things that we don't want to talk about but we need to talk about. Honestly, one of the things that helped me was after having made Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, the fears I had then.. before I made that film, went away with the success of that film's release."ALSO READ - Haq Director Suparn S Varma Says 'Nidar' Emraan Hashmi Said 'Don't Protect Me'; New Mother Yami Gautam Dhar 'Sacrificed' A Lot - EXCLAfter Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai's success, Suparn realised that he needed to be more 'fearless' in his storytelling. Wondering why? "Because I am coming from a place of honesty. I do not have a baggage. I don't have any sense of trying to prove a point or anything, or say something particular for the sake of controversy."
Haq's supporting star cast
While Emraan and Yami star as the leads, Sheeba Chaddha, Aseem Hattangady, Danish Husain form the supporting star cast. Model-turned-actress Vartika Singh makes her Bollywood debut with Haq. The film has been produced by Junglee Pictures.
