Ram
Charan and Janhvi Kapoor's upcoming sports drama Peddi's dance number Hellallallo, which also features Shruti Haasan, received mixed reactions online. While some called it a "hangover of Pushpa," others questioned the need for the song and its rather sensual dance moves in a film being touted as an inspirational family entertainer. Some even went as far as calling the steps "vulgar." When asked about the controversy, both lead stars admitted they were "blissfully unaware" of the backlash surrounding the music video. However, Janhvi maintained that she did not find the song obscene. Ram Charan, meanwhile, stressed that the team's intentions were entirely pure.
Peddi Stars Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor On Hellallallo Controversy
In an exclusive conversation with Times Now's Group Editor in Chief Navika Kumar for The Newshour, Janhvi said, "I didn't realise that the song elicited this reaction, so I guess I was unaware. But to be honest, I think it's an actor's job to trust their director and their director's vision. And I think in the milieu of the film and where the characters are based, I guess it made (sense)... I didn't think the song was vulgar. It's just, I felt like we were just dancing."
Ram Charan quickly added, "I think we didn't feel it when we were doing it. I mean, our intentions were very pure. Pure to the point of what is required for the character and the song. We never went out of line and then did something that is like, 'Are the kids and the children going to see something not supposed to be?'"
Janhvi Kapoor On Shooting Hellallallo
Asked if she felt uncomfortable while shooting the song,
Janhvi disagreed. She said that what would make her feel uneasy was if the makers wanted to 'titillate' the audience. "I don't think that's where my director operated from at all with regards to this song."She continued, "And for me, it was about dancing and how vivacious and energetic that dance was. And I have seen dance like this in Hindi films as well. I have seen it in Western pop culture as well, where they are very expressive, even if it's sexually so. But if the ownership and agency of it are there, I don't see why it should particularly offend someone unless the gaze is to only objectify. I wasn't the only one dancing like that. Neither was Shruti. He was also doing the same dance steps. I think, khot phir dekhne walon ki aankhon mein hai, hai na?"The
Devara actress went on to admit that she had experienced apprehensions in situations where women were objectified without reason. However, she reiterated that an actor's job is to trust their director completely, adding that the team simply followed that approach while filming the song.

Ram Charan Enjoyed Hellallallo As Much As RRR's Naatu Naatu
"Frankly, if I have enjoyed doing
Naatu Naatu with my colleague, Mr Jr NTR, I have had the same kind of enjoyment and happiness performing with both of them. I didn't see any difference between that song and this song," said Ram Charan. He further said, "I don't know how it reached this kind of an objective manner. But that was not our intention, so that is more important. If our intention was that and it is conveyed, I am worried this is what they picked up from the song. But humara intention woh nahi tha."Meanwhile,
Peddi is arriving in cinema halls on June 4. Helmed by Buchi Babu Sana, it also stars Dr Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu, Boman Irani, Japathi Babu and others.
