In
a world that is driven by technology, it is an old saying now that artificial intelligence will change our lives. The CEO of Infosys Salil Parekh has recently echoed a similar sentiment, speaking with The Economic Times (ET), he stressed how AI will change the long-standing IT talent structure of India. Parekh explained that while AI will transform how organisations hire and train their workforce, it will eventually produce more opportunities rather than reducing jobs, as Infosys prepares the company for a future led by AI.
AI To Change How IT Works
For years,
Indian IT organisations have often followed a structure which is a pyramid model. Several junior employees at the bottom and fewer senior experts at the top. Now, the IT industry seems to change as per experts, suggesting AI could reshape this structure into a more ‘diamond-like hierarchy, with a significant focus on specialised skills. Parekh agreed that this shift is coming soon, but mentioned it will not happen all of the sudden. He suggested that AI will produce opportunities over time instead of shrinking the workforce.
Will Hiring Be Affected?
Parekh mentioned that despite the shift, Infosys is not slowing down its hiring efforts at the entry level. He stated that the organisation hired 20,000 fresh graduates in 2025 and he is expecting a similar number this year. At the same time, the company is also planning to add more experienced professionals and specialists to balance fresh talent with advanced skills. Infosys is changing how its workforce functions. The IT giant is updating its training programs. New employees will be taught both conventional coding methods and how to use modern AI tools, which includes its foundation models. The idea of the company is to develop workers for a hybrid future where software development and AI will go together. Moreover, Parekh added that Infosys is encouraging employees to use more AI tools and track their usage through ‘token’. It is a metric linked to how often foundation models are utilised. He stressed that the token numbers used are not the end goal. It is about real success which lies in whether clients see real business growth like improved efficiency.
