Tamil film producer and director K Rajan died by suicide on Sunday in Chennai at the age of 85, leaving the Tamil film industry in shock. According to reports, Rajan allegedly jumped from the Adyar bridge. Known for his outspoken personality and decades-long contribution to Tamil cinema, K Rajan had worked as a producer, writer, director and actor throughout his career. Several celebrities, including Vishal, R. Sarathkumar and Khushbu Sundar, mourned his demise and expressed disbelief over the heartbreaking news.

According to initial reports, K Rajan died after allegedly jumping from the Adyar bridge in Chennai on Sunday. Authorities have reportedly registered a police case, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway. More details regarding the circumstances surrounding his death are still awaited. The veteran producer is survived by his son, Prabhukanth.
K Rajan was regarded as one of the veteran personalities in Tamil cinema and had contributed to the industry in multiple capacities over several decades. Apart from producing films, he also worked as a writer, director, and actor. He began his journey in the film industry in the early 1980s and made his debut as a producer with
Brammacharigal in 1983. Over the years, he became associated with several Tamil films, including Doubles, Aval Paavam, and Ninaikoatha Naaliai.Beyond filmmaking, Rajan was also known for his bold public remarks and outspoken nature during industry discussions and press events. He had also served as the president of the distributors’ association.
Celebrities mourn K Rajan’s death
Soon after the news broke, several members of the Tamil film fraternity took to social media to pay tribute to the veteran producer. Actor Vishal wrote on X, “Just heard the news of K Rajan sir’s demise. Shocking to hear that he committed suicide. A bold speaker." He prayed for his soul to rest in peace.Meanwhile, Khushbu Sundar also expressed her grief and described the news as deeply upsetting.“Terrible news. Deeply shocked to hear about the demise of our beloved member of film fraternity, producer K Rajan Sir. His passing away by suicide is extremely saddening. Very respectful person and a man who never hesitated to call a spade a spade,” she wrote.
