Farah
Khan has long been missed as a director. With her own quirky filmmaking style, Farah brings a wholesome flavour to commercial cinema. Now, she might finally be gearing up to return to the director’s chair. While the filmmaker has stayed in the spotlight through her entertaining YouTube vlogs, audiences have long been waiting for her trademark big-screen spectacle to make a comeback. Loved for delivering crowd-pleasing entertainers like Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and the internet sensation Tees Maar Khan, Farah recently dropped a major hint about her next directorial during a candid chat on her vlog - and it involves her close friend Shah Rukh Khan!
Farah Khan-Shah Rukh Khan duo to make a comeback?
In her latest YouTube video, Farah visited actor Nakuul Mehta’s Mumbai home, where the conversation turned nostalgic. Nakuul mentioned how much he missed the genre of films Farah is famous for. Responding to that, Farah said, “Abhi banaungi main! Abhi bachche chaley jayenge na college, phir banaungi! There is a whole petition on the internet called wapas aao Farah Khan. So I think it is time, I think end of this year I will start."(I will make a film soon! My kids are going to college, so I will make one after that. There is a whole petition for me to return to direction saying 'Come back Farah Khan'.)
Farah also jokingly addressed her growing popularity as a YouTuber, saying she is not quitting the platform anytime soon as it helps her pay her children’s fees. However, when Nakuul playfully asked whether YouTube would also produce her next film, Farah made her condition crystal clear. She replied, “If I do (direct a film), I will do it will Shah Rukh (Khan)! Otherwise, I will wait and do YouTube.”
SRK and Farah's films together
This statement has naturally fuelled speculation about
Shah Rukh Khan potentially collaborating with Farah Khan once again. The duo has a long and successful history together. Farah made her directorial debut with
Main Hoon Na (2004), starring SRK, which went on to become a massive hit. They followed it up with
Om Shanti Om (2007), one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most iconic films, loved for its blockbuster music, meta storytelling and larger-than-life presentation (SRK's abs too!). Both of these films have a great rewatch value.
Farah also reunited with SRK for
Happy New Year (2014), a film that, despite mixed reviews, performed strongly at the box office. Their collaborations have consistently had a good mix of spectacle, humour, music and emotion - elements Farah is celebrated for. While there is no official confirmation yet, Farah Khan’s comments clearly suggest that Shah Rukh Khan remains her first choice for her comeback film. If the stars align, fans could soon witness the return of one of Bollywood’s most successful actor-director pairings on the big screen.
