Plot details remain scarce, character arcs are a mystery, and Nolan has revealed little about how he plans to reimagine the ancient epic for modern audiences. That is why the internet collectively did a double take this weekend.

During a TV ad aired amid Sunday’s AFC Championship game, viewers spotted an unexpected face in previously unseen footage of The Odyssey- rapper Travis Scott. The Houston-born global music star appears in a scene alongside Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland, and notably, he has a speaking role.

The brief moment was enough to send social media into meltdown, with fans scrambling to confirm whether they had really just seen Travis Scott in a Christopher Nolan film and if that information even belongs in a single sentence! While it remains unclear whether Scott’s appearance is a cameo or part of a more substantial role, the reaction online was instant and divided. One fan wrote on X, “Travis Scott is in The Odyssey and has a speaking role???? Nolan come on man lmaooo.” Another fan took a more optimistic view, saying, “I think Travis Scott stepping into acting is awesome and interesting don’t really understand why people are hating so much.” A third echoed the disbelief many felt: “Did I just see Travis Scott in The Odyssey trailer?”

The filmmaker and musician previously worked together on Tenet, for which Scott provided the end credits track, The Plan. Nolan was reportedly impressed by Scott’s creative instincts, even writing him a personal note after watching the music video for Franchise, which was later screened in IMAX before select Tenet showings. Their professional relationship, which was largely behind the scenes until now, has clearly been built on mutual respect and the world can now see the actor behind the rapper!

Nolan’s The Odyssey boasts a star-studded ensemble led by Matt Damon as Odysseus. Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus, Zendaya appears as Athena, Anne Hathaway portrays Penelope, and Robert Pattinson takes on the role of Antinous. Other key cast members are Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth and Elliot Page.
