I
Love LA and English Teacher actor Jordan Firstman turned a breakup into material for his first film, Club Kid. The actor-turned-filmmaker is making his directorial debut with the feature film, which is competing at the 79th Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. Before the premiere of the film, Firstman posed with his Club Kid cast and shared a kiss with The Night Manager actor Diego Calva. The comedy-drama film features Firstman in the lead role alongside Calva, Cara Delevingne and child actor Reggie Absolom. Check out the pics below!
Jordan Firstman, Diego Calva kiss before Club Kid premiere
At the photocall for
Club Kid in front of the world and French media, Firstman was in a playful mood. He kissed both of the stars of his film, Diego Calva and Cara Delevingne, and lifted newcomer Absolom upside down, making the child actor laugh with delight. In the English-language film, Firstman plays Peter, a gay man living in New York whose life is upended by the arrival of a young boy who is his son (Absolom). Peter, who works as an underground party promoter, must take care of his son and change his life around.
The film is having its world premiere on May 15 at Cannes and Firstman, who wrote and directed the film, shared that screening the film at the French film festival was such a wild card. He is apprehensive about the response, wondering whether audiences will like the film or not and whether it will be bought by distributors after. In an interview with
Vanity Fair, Firstman shared that he wrote
Club Kid after his long-term relationship with the love of his life dissolved. The film came out of his lowest point of his life. He added, "It’s hard for me to talk about—there is just so much emotion tied to this for me."
The actor also revealed that
Club Kid is most about the father-son relationship and how Peter introduces his son to his life on the queer nightclub scene. Child actor Absolom was discovered after Firstman watched hundreds of audition tapes from London. It can be deduced that model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne plays the little boy's mother.
