In
the last few weeks, it's been evident that all is not well between composer Labrinth and Euphoria. The eagerly awaited third season of Euphoria is releasing on April 12 on HBO and HBO Max internationally. In India, it is set to be released a few days later on April 15 on JioHotstar. However, earlier this week it was confirmed that Hans Zimmer will be the only composer on the show. Zimmer joined Labrinth as a co-composer, as HBO had revealed in 2025. Last month, Labrinth posted that he was "out" and slammed Euphoria and Columbia, his record label. In his latest post on social media, the composer has hinted at mistreatment from the Euphoria makers.
Labrinth shares statement allegement mistreatment from Euphoria producers
After removing much of his posts on social media, British songwriter and composer
Labrinth has finally revealed why he decided to step away from Euphoria Season 3. He has been associated with the HBO shows since the beginning and even won an Emmy Award for his song. On his Instagram Story, he shared that he had to walk out on the show as he was being treated badly by the series staff.
In his statement, the composer said that people lie in the music industry all the time and call themselves honest. He stated that he wanted his music to be removed from the show and according to him, he and HBO are cool about it. However, Labrinth added, "I left because – last truth – when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me but I don’t let people treat me like shit."
Labrinth seems to be moving on as well and is slated to perform at the music festival Coachella on April 11, a day before
Euphoria's premiere in the US. Last time, he had brought out lead star Zendaya during his set. The festival is also sharing the first episode of
Euphoria exclusively. HBO and creator Sam Levinson have not made any official statements about his departure.
Sam Levinson on music in Euphoria Season 3
In an interview with
Rolling Stone, Levinson had stated he didn't know what went wrong between Labrinth and the series. He gave the composer credit for building the foundation for the sound of Euphoria. Levinson explained why he wanted to bring on Oscar winner
Hans Zimmer for the new season.
He shared that each character's storyline is like a film and for this third season, he was "less interested in needle drops and more interested in something that guided us through this world." For
Euphoria Season 3, the characters return after a five-year time jump and are no longer in high school. Levinson also added that he wanted a more "old-fashioned Hollywood Western score."
