fresh setback has hit Suriya’s Karuppu, as producer SR Prabhu announced the cancellation of the film’s special 9 AM shows scheduled for its May 14 release day. This comes despite Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay extending support to the makers of Karuppu by granting special permission for the film's early screenings. Following this, director RJ Balaji penned a note in which he requested Suriya's fans to wait and stated that Karuppu Saami will help them overcome obstacles to ensure a smooth release. The action drama also stars Trisha Krishnan in a key role.
Karuppu Special Shows Cancelled - Here's Why

"Due to unavoidable reasons, 9 AM shows will be cancelled for Karuppu. Our sincere apologies to everyone!" Soon after, RJ Balaji shared an emotional tweet saying that he did not have a concrete answer to the current situation, while assuring fans that the producers were doing their best to resolve the hurdles. He added that
Karuppu had faced several challenges over the past 32 months, but expressed complete faith that the film would overcome all barriers and release as planned.
Nikilesh Surya of Rohini Silver Screens, a popular theatre in Chennai, stated that the film is likely to release once the issues are resolved. He mentioned that they had received calls to stop bookings for
Karuppu, but added that the distribution team remains confident that all pending issues will be cleared and the film will have an on-time release as scheduled. He also wrote that bookings have been temporarily paused pending clarity, and that all bookings will be honoured if the film releases at 9 AM.
Theatres and overseas film distributors also announced the news of the cancellation of the film's premieres. As per reports online, the film's release has been halted due to financial hurdles.Fans expressed disappointment over the news and posted that they have faith in the team, but that it is unfair this happened.

Alongside Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the film features a strong supporting cast including Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Indrans, and Natty Subramanium. The screenplay is written by RJ Balaji in collaboration with Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan and Karan Aravind Kumar. Originally, AR Rahman was in talks to compose the music, but the final score is now being handled by new sensation Sai Abhyankkar. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2026.
