Chhaava, Dhurandhar and Border 2 proved that a good massy entertainer never goes out of vogue. Reiterating the fact that the Indian audience is always up for larger-than-life desi cinema. When films are
patriotic and historic, people cheer the loudest. Similarly, bringing Hindi cinema out of a lull phase, Chhaava, Dhurandhar and Border 2 established their legacies at the box office. While the Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna period drama ruled most of 2025, Ranveer Singh’s espionage thriller dethroned it to become the number one film. The margin between the two was thin. Crashing into the multicrore club was Border 2. A perfect Republic Day watch, the war drama left Chhaava and Dhurandhar behind on the first day itself.Like Chhaava, Border 2 also released in the first quarter of the year. Adding energy to the patriotic spirit in the country, the Sunny Deol movie captured the mood of the audience well. Vicky’s film had arrived closer to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in 2025. When the trade assumed Chhaava was unbeatable, Border 2 arrived to prove it wrong. Here are four records broken by the war drama that the historical epic failed to.
Border 2 vs Chhaava Day 5 collection
After the Republic Day 2026 wave,
Border 2 saw a slight decline at the box office, but only after touching the Rs 196.50 crore mark. Within five days, the Anurag Singh directorial came this close to the Rs 200 crore club. On the other hand,
Chhaava minted Rs 165 crore on Day 5. It had taken a better start than
Dhurandhar.
Biggest opening
The title of the highest-opener was taken away from
Chhaava after almost a year. Its Rs 30 crore opening was challenged by
Border 2, which also opened its account at the box office with the same amount. It took over the title from the predecessor.
Biggest opening weekend
In its opening weekend,
Chhaava had earned Rs 121.43 crore, as per Taran Adarsh’s tweet, which also revealed that
Border 2 minted Rs 129.89 crore. Both films released without any major competition at the box office. While
Border 2 got a national holiday weekend,
Chhaava released on a non-holiday weekend.
Worldwide collection
Border 2 is a legacy film. Chhaava was a standalone one. Owing to this, the former was expected to perform better worldwide, too. In less than five days, Sunny’s film earned Rs 239.40 crore. On the fifth day, Vicky’s biopic had collected Rs 228.85 crore.
While
Chhaava and
Border 2 compete for the title of the highest-grossing Indian film, cinema buffs thoroughly enjoyed watching them exactly the way they should be. Competition aside, Bollywood is back and here to stay.
