Rao's next film, Toaster, has him going to extreme lengths to secure back a very costly toaster. His character Ramakant is willing to do anything to get it back, but will he become a killer? Produced by wife Patralekhaa's Kampa Film, Toaster is premiering on Netflix on April 15. It is the maiden production for the Citylights actress. Sanya Malhotra stars opposite Rajkummar in the dark comedy, which features a number of top supporting actors, including Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Farah Khan. Toaster trailer features a desperate Rajkummar Rao
On social media, the trailer of Toaster was unveiled with the caption 'Pati, patni, aur Toaster'. The zany dark comedy is directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary. The story of Toaster is by Parveez Shaikh and the screenplay is written by Parveez, Akshat Ghildial and Anagh Mukerjee. The first trailer shows Rajkummar's Ramakant being extra kanjoos (miserly) in his daily life. Ramakant's wife (Sanya Malhotra) is exasperated by his ways but convinces him to splurge on an expensive toaster as a wedding gift.

Later, Ramakant is horrified to find out the wedding was called off and the gifts were donated to charity. It leads him down a crazed journey to retrieve it back, running into eccentric characters played by Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa. Archana Puran Singh plays the role of his mother. But as Ramakant finds himself digging a very deep hole trying to get back the toaster, will he resort to murder? However, this is the first film produced by his production house, Kampa Film. The actor revealed that the real reason he was drawn to Toaster was the idea that something so small can take over a person's mind. Rajkummar shared that his character Ramakant genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing. He doesn’t see his actions as extreme but rather practical. He added that it was exciting working both behind and in front of the camera with Toaster. Rajkummar and director Vivek Das Chaudhary had formerly worked on the Netflix series Guns & Gulaabs, where he was an assistant director. He makes his directorial debut with the feature film, having directed the short film Gubbare before.
