Rana Daggubati described his experience working on Baahubali as one of the most demanding phases of his career. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he revealed that it was difficult to single out one scene that challenged him the most. The entire six-year-long production required unprecedented effort, both physically and mentally, from the entire cast and crew. The sheer ambition of the project, which included intricate war sequences, advanced visual effects, and a unique storytelling style, pushed everyone involved to their limits. According to Rana, the film could only be done under the vision of a master like SS Rajamouli and a committed team.
Rana said that the extended production timeline itself was a major feat. The project demanded consistent focus and energy over six to seven years. He shared, “It’s not about one scene because, at that point, we were discovering how to make that film as well. It was pushing everyone’s boundaries.” The actor explained that the team was attempting something that had never been done before in Indian cinema, and that ambition is what made the journey so challenging yet exhilarating.
Transformation Into Bhallaladeva
One of the toughest aspects for Rana was his physical transformation into Bhallaladeva, the antagonist of the franchise. The role required him to adopt a different physique, which changed his appearance drastically. The actor also recalled on how his transformation for the role of Bhallaladeva made him question whether audiences would still recognize him after the film. His physical appearance had changed so drastically that when returning from the United States, he wondered if people would identify him. Interestingly, the first person to do so was an immigration officer, who immediately identified him as King Bhallaladeva. This moment make him believe how lasting the impact of cinema can be, showing that the film continues to work with audiences even several years after its release.
Baahubali began with Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015, starring Prabhas in a dual role alongside Rana, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, and Nassar.
