Stranger Things has ended after nearly 10 years, but the discourse around the ending and its final season hasn't. Earlier this week, Netflix also released a documentary about the final season titled One
Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5. The feature film reveals the process of making the final season, which often got stressful. It reveals that the Duffer Brothers hadn't even completed the screenplay before shooting the finale. Amidst the discourse about the divisive ending of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), fans have accused the makers of using ChatGPT after a screenshot from the documentary went viral. Here's what the director Martina Radwan has to say!
Stranger Things documentary director denies use of ChatGPT in final scripts
In an interview with
The Hollywood Reporter, Martina Radwan was directly asked if Matt and Ross Duffer used AI (artificial intelligence) to write the final season of
Stranger Things. Denying the claim by fans, Radwan replied, "How can you possibly write a storyline with 19 characters and use ChatGPT, I don’t even understand."
She went on to add, "Again, first of all, nobody has actually proved that it was open. That’s like having your iPhone next to your computer while you’re writing a story. We just use these tools … while multitasking. So there’s a lot going on all the time, every time. What I find heartbreaking is everybody loves the show, and suddenly we need to pick it apart." Radwan, who was given unfiltered access to the Duffer Brothers to capture their process for the
documentary, also revealed that the writers' room of
Stranger Things had plenty of creative talks about what the final season should be. "People think “writers room” means people are sitting there writing. No, it’s a creative exchange. It’s story development. And, of course, you go places in your creative mind and then you come back [to the script]. I think being in the writers room is such a privilege and such a gift to be able to witness that," she concluded.
More about Stranger Things
Since the show wrapped up on December 31, fans have gone wild with theories online. They believed that several scenes were cut from the finale, and additionally, with the hashtag of Conformity Gate, they firmly believed that an additional ninth episode was set to release on Netflix last week. All of these fan theories have been debunked by the Duffers and others working in the production of the Netflix series.
