Maxton Hall Director Martin Schreier Loves And Appreciates Fan Edits, Teases ‘Beautiful Conclusion’ For Season 3 - EXCL
Times Now
The German series Maxton Hall—The World Between Us became an international hit on Amazon Prime Video in 2024, much like another coming-of-age drama, The Summer I Turned Pretty, a few years ago. After a year,
the series about classmates James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) and Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) is returning on November 7 to follow up on their star-crossed romance. Director Martin Schreier spoke to Zoom about the new season expectations, the leads' chemistry, and why he enjoys checking out fan edits on social media.
Martin Schreier on darker, angstier Season 2 of Maxton Hall
Schreier told Zoom that he didn't feel any pressure for the new season. He shared, "It was actually, it was pure joy. It's hard for an artist when you make art and no one watches. And if you know that there are a lot of people you touched with season one, it really gave us the strength, and we did the excitement and the fun to make season two. And I don't like to put pressure on my team, I always want everyone to have fun, because I think when they have fun, the fun will translate to the audience."

The filmmaker revealed that the most essential part of Maxton Hall was the pairing. He explained, "The hardest part was the casting to find the right couple. And if you have found them, it's really easy. But the thing is, we worked so hard with Damien because he's going down so deep into his emotions that he's pushing Ruby away. And Damien is a wonderful actor who gives 1000 per cent into his acting and into the character. So it made it really easy for Harriet as well, because it translated to the set. And when he was angry, you felt it. And it made it really easy because he's a little bit like method actor. That there was something you didn't have to create it. It was already there.ALSO READ: Maxton Hall Season 2 Trailer: German Coming-Of-Age Drama Returns With James Trying To Win Back Ruby - Watch
Martin Schreier on fan edits and Season 3
While Schreier was careful not to divulge anything on Season 3, which was announced even before Season 2's date was fixed, he did say that they were currently in the thick of it. He said, "I'm not allowed actually to talk about it, but I think what we tried to achieve is to bring a beautiful conclusion to the whole story and to all the characters and the friendships and everything. But that's all I can say because we're in the process now of finding the way to tell the story."

The director was also very appreciative of the fan edits he sees on social media, especially since he started out as a fan himself. Schreier revealed, "I follow a lot of fan groups. And I try to be as active as possible. I started as a fan myself. I was a fan of a lot of films and everything. And I actually made fan edits when I was 14, I think. I edited a lot of trailers of my favorite movies and everything. So I know the passion behind that. And I really love that people love what we did so much that they put their hearts and souls into creating new art of it." He also hoped that fans would enjoy what his team has delivered with the new season. The filmmaker added, "I'm very proud of this season. I'm super proud. I really think that we achieved what we wanted to tell with the story. And I really hope that it will be a roller coaster ride for the audience with a lot of heartbreak, a lot of darkness in some places, but a lot of joy and a lot of romance and love and everything." Maxton Hall is based on Mona Kasten's book series. It also stars Sonja Weißer, Ben Felipe and Fedja van Huêt.
