The Hunger Games Sunrise On The Reaping Trailer Reveals President Snow, Effie Trinket, Caeser Flickerman In Action - Watch

newest return to Panem has gotten viewers all riled up. A new trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) forced to leave behind his sweetheart Leonore Dove (Whitney Peak) and compete in the 50th Hunger Games. Of course, since the film is a prequel story, viewers already know that he goes to win and mentor Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). But the action-packed new trailer shows the deadly second quarter quell in which 48 children are pitted against one another to fight to the death.

The Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping shows Panem from Haymitch's perspective

On social media, the trailer was unveiled with the caption, "All machines can be broken." And indeed, Haymitch's spirit is first broken when he is taken away from District 12, his family and his first love. The trailer also shows Haymitch interacting with gamesmaker Plutarch Heavensbee, played by Jesse Plemons; Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket, his designer; Kieran Culkin as the loud host Caesar Flickerman; and, of course, Ralph Fiennes as the evil President Snow.

Fiennes becomes the third actor to play Snow after Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth. The trailer also shares extended glimpses of Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, a District 12 official and Mckenna Grace as District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner; Maya Hawke as a young Wiress; and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as a young Beetee Latier, who are his mentors. Ben Wang, Bill Porter, Iris Apatow, Edvin Ryding, and Lili Taylor are also part of the cast. In The Hunger Games franchise,Woody Harrelson plays the older Haymitch.

The third film, based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel, is set 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. In the film, the second Quarter Quell forces each district of Panem to send double the number of tributes to the Capitol for sacrifice. For the 50th edition of the games, 48 children will be participating instead of the regular 24.

Sunrise on the Reaping is directed by Francis Lawrence, while Billy Ray has written the screenplay. Produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and director Lawrence, Sunrise on the Reaping is releasing in theatres on November 20, 2026. It will be the sixth feature in The Hunger Games film series after The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023).
