The
third season of Euphoria, created by Sam Levinson, already looks different than previous instalments. The HBO show's fifth episode titled This Little Piggy had plenty of movement as characters got mixed up in dangerous situations. Writer-director Levinson placed several of them in danger and ended the episode on a cliffhanger, with one main character facing a life-or-death situation. What's more, in the preview trailer shown for the next week, the character is also missing. Has the award-winning show killed off its main character in the middle of the season? We break down the clues. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
Has Euphoria killed off its main character?
In the fifth episode, the war between Laurie (Martha Kelly) and Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) has escalated. The drug dealer Laurie and the strip club owner Alamo have been at odds since the overdose death of one of the dancers. The duo have had potshots back against one another, and Rue (
Zendaya), who used to work for Laurie, has been caught in the middle. Additionally, she has become a DEA informant, supplying information on both sides.
The wily Rue tries to frame dancer and strip club worker Magick (Rosalía) by trying to imply that she is the snitch. Instead, Magick tries to convince Alamo and his men G (Marshawn Lynch) and Bishop (Darrell Britt-Gibson) that Rue is at fault and should have recognised the voices of Laurie's crew who robbed Alamo's strip club in the last episode. While Alamo tries to make a business deal with Maddy (Alexa Demie) to create OnlyFans accounts for his dancers, Rue is taken out for a drive by G and Bishop, who make her dig a ditch and bury her inside with only her head poking out. Then Alamo emerges on horseback while carrying a mace and heading full speed towards her. The episode ends just as he reaches Rue. Is that the end of the character? There are no scenes of Rue in next week's preview, which focuses on Maddy, Cassie (
Sydney Sweeney) and the rest of the gang.
Did Sydney Sweeney's Cassie hint that she's MAGA?
Elsewhere, Cassie has seen her fame rise as an OnlyFans model after leaving Nate. She sees her follower count grow steadily and even auditions for a role on her sister Lexi's (Maude Apatow) Hollywood show, LA Nights.
A montage shows Cassie appearing on a number of podcasts, including one where she is told that she sounds like a Democrat. She retorts, "I’m not retarded." The dialogue is a sly innuendo to the actress's own political affiliations. Previously, it was indicated that Sweeney was a registered Republican. The next episode of
Euphoria Season 3 will air on JioHotstar on May 18, 2026.
