Data Security and safety is a joke in India, and the type of leaks that keep happening prove the point time and again. In a recent development, it has been found that a website named ProxyEarth is revealing all your data just with a phone number. To check the same, users can enter any number on the site to access personal information like father's name, email IDs, alternate numbers, address, and more. The website most probably used the data records from telecom companies like Vodafone Idea, Jio, and Airtel at the time of SIM registration. In some cases, it also relies on triangulation via mobile towers to pinpoint the current location of a particular device. Some of the information in the results could be outdated, but the rest of things are
criminally accurate. The man behind the website, Rakesh, is a programmer and a video editor. According to him, he has done nothing wrong and the website is not involved in anything illegal. Instead, the website only compiles data that has already leaked online. In a conversation with India Today, Rakesh said that the website works as a platform to attract web traffic and advertise his products. Reports suggest that he operates multiple websites and some of them deal with pirated content. As of now, the website has been live for a week, and there is no word from government officials regarding something that could be a major threat to the privacy of users.
What's Our Take On This?
Yes, we here at Times Now Tech did try using Proxy Earth with a few contacts, but the message showing up always said not found. Now, the main thing to understand here is that there is nothing fancy in work. No hacking, or no real-time data theft, so stop imagining a hacker sitting in the background planning something big.In simple terms, ProxyEarth is using all the data from the old leaks, storing it, and then using it to deliver the details. For example, let's say that you enter a number. Now, if your data was leaked in any past breach and has not been cleaned up by the party from which it came, then Proxy Earth will fetch your details from that data because they have already stored it. This was the main reason why a lot of people are not getting accurate details.
What About The Location Part Then?
Location accuracy is the biggest gimmick pulled off by ProxyEarth as it is nothing but a UI that makes the website like scarier and gets people talking because no one want to reveal their live location, or feel that vulnerability. And yes, the tool also has a telegram that you can use to get the details of the number. We tried that too, but no luck in finding any accurate information.
Why Data Security Is A Joke In India?
Because people never take that seriously, even after knowing how many leaks are happening every day. According to a report by IT Pro, India ranked among the highest when it comes to credential exposure worldwide. Furthermore, Indian websites have suffered more than 265 million cyberattacks in 2025 itself, which is a major concern. What need to change right now is how the companies collect data and for what they need the same. Both things should be in sync, and if there are no security protocols, then the companies should simply not ask for the data from the users. Another major point is that the government websites and SIM KYC protocols are not tight enough to save themselves from the risk of getting hacked. That being said, until the authorities start taking user data seriously, nothing will change.
