After
years of delays and uncertainty, Chiyaan Vikram’s much-awaited film Dhruva Natchathiram has finally received a major boost. The long-stalled project, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, is now back on track for a theatrical release following a big development in Madras High Court. With legal and financial hurdles slowing it down for years, fans have been eagerly waiting for clarity on its fate. The latest order from the Madras High Court has now paved the way for the film’s release, bringing renewed hope that the spy thriller will finally hit theatres soon.
Dhruva Natchathiram to release on...
In a crucial development, the Madras High Court has facilitated the release of
Dhruva Natchathiram on or before June 15. The order was passed by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, addressing the long-pending financial and legal issues that had stalled the film’s progress. The decision came after investors K Punniyamoorthy and K Premkumar expressed their willingness to allow the release, provided the film’s revenue is handled through a structured financial mechanism. This condition played a key role in the court’s directive. To ensure transparency, the court has ordered the creation of a dedicated bank account under Kondaduvom Entertainment. All revenues generated from the film will be routed through this account. Additionally, a lawyer will be appointed to supervise financial transactions, including income and expenditure. The court has also imposed strict conditions, stating that no payments, whether salaries or profit shares, can be made to partners of Kondaduvom Entertainment without prior approval.
Difficulties before Dhruva Natchathiram release
While the court’s order is a major step forward, a few hurdles still remain. Director Gautham Menon is expected to secure funds from investors to clear outstanding dues before the film can be released. He is also required to initiate discussions with theatre owners and distributors to finalise the release strategy. Only after these steps are completed will the makers issue an official confirmation regarding the exact release date. The court has also provided some flexibility, stating that if the film cannot meet the June 15 deadline despite genuine efforts, the parties involved can approach the court again for an extension.
Dhruva Natchathiram has had a turbulent journey since it went on floors in 2017. The film faced multiple setbacks, including financial constraints, legal disputes, and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although shooting was finally completed in 2023, release plans have repeatedly fallen through. The film was initially slated to release on November 24, 2023, but was halted just a day prior due to unresolved financial issues. Another tentative release window in February 2024 also did not materialise.Apart from Vikram, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Vinayakan, Ritu Varma, Parthiban, Simran, and Radikaa Sarathkumar. The film’s technical team includes cinematographers Manoj Paramahamsa, Jomon T John, Santhana Krishnan, and Ravichandran, with editing by Praveen Antony. It is produced by Ondraga Entertainment in association with Oruoorileoru Film House.
