The makers, KVN Productions, have now officially confirmed that the film’s release has been postponed. Originally slated to hit theatres on January 9, 2026, the release has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. The film is stuck in a limbo with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and three court cases later, there’s still no resolution. Now, reports of Tamil Nadu theatres facing a loss of over Rs 100 crore due to the delay are making rounds and it has taken over the internet.

Trade Analyst Makes Shocking Claims About Jana Nayagan

A trade analyst revealed to India Today that due to the delay in the release of Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan, theatres are facing huge losses worth crores. Explaining it all, Ramesh Bala shared how Pongal was supposed to witness the clash of Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi and however, the film's release was stalled. "Vijay's film could easily have made Rs 150-200 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, Parasakthi made Rs 55 crore in Tamil Nadu," he said.

The critic also mentioned that Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar was a ‘complete washout’ while Jiiva’s Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil made about Rs 30 crore. "Since there is no projected revenue, the Tamil Nadu box office could have lost almost Rs 100 crore because of Jana Nayagan's delay," Bala added.

KVN Productions went to the apex court after a January 9 High Court order stalled the film’s release by staying a Single Judge Bench directive that called for the immediate issuance of a UA certificate. Days later, on January 15, the Supreme Court refused to entertain another plea by the producer challenging the Division Bench’s stay and the delay in the final censor certificate. The case was eventually heard on January 20, keeping the makers and fans in anxious anticipation.
