Kartik
Aaryan’s much-anticipated fantasy comedy Naagzilla may not slither into theatres as planned. The film, which was announced last year with considerable buzz, was earlier slated to hit screens on August 14, banking on the lucrative Independence Day weekend. However, a new report suggests that the makers are considering pushing the release date, sparking speculation around the reason behind the delay. Contrary to assumptions linking the move to box office performance concerns, and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri's underwhelming run, the postponement of Karan Johar's Dharma-backed film appears to be driven by creative and technical factors rather than commercial ones.
Kartik Aaryan's Naagzilla delayed!
According to a report by
Bollywood Hungama,
Naagzilla is still in the process of being filmed. The publication quoted a source as saying, “
Naagzilla’s shoot is still going on and is expected to be wrapped up in a few months. Moreover, this is a film with heavy VFX. As a result, the post-production is going to take a lot of time." The report further mentions that both - the makers of the film and lead actor Kartik Aaryan are quite clear that they do not want to rush through the process of post-production. They know that
Naagzilla is a special film and fine-tuning it properly before presenting it to the audience is necessary.
When will Naagzilla release?
The same report also mentions that the makers of
Naagzilla are now looking for a new date and once the same is locked, it will be officially announced for the fans. On the other hand, only Naagzilla had locked August 14 date this year and with the film being postponed, the Independence day window is wide open for any other star and production house.
Naagzilla features Kartik Aaryan in a quirky avatar as a shape-shifting naag. It is a genre-bending concept, with comedy, fantasy and mass entertainment mixed in one supernatural box. Given the scale and technical demands of such a project, post-production is expected to be extensive, making a rushed release risky. The film is directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, best known for the
Fukrey franchise, and is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions along with Mahaveer Jain’s Mahaveer Jain Films.
Naagzilla is Kartik’s second project with KJo after
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.
