BTS
member Jungkook has a huge role in the success of Hooligan from the band's new album ARIRANG. We aren't just referring to the creative process that JK was deeply involved in for the track, but even in making it a viral trend across social media. The 28-year-old hopped onto his ride and created his version of the viral 'Hooligan biker trend,' giving it a super-fun twist. The idol's clip, as of today, has crossed 105 million views, becoming one of the highest-engaged posts on Instagram ever. The man behind the original trend is happy that he managed to grab the attention of Jungkook.
Man behind Hooligan biker reel
Akash, the user who first created the biker clip for
Hooligan, has Indian roots. Infact Jungkook has been on a reposting spree of the dance videos fans have been sharing on
Hooligan online, and Akash's idea stood out. Akash exclusively told Zoom about the idea behind his biker version. He said, "The Hooligan trend was already viral, but people were mostly doing it the same way. My niche is bikes, I try to bring almost every trend into the biker world, so it was only natural for me to do it that way."
Reaction to Jungkook reacting to his bike video
Akash not just impressed the netizens, but even JK, so much so that the singer ended up trying it out himself. So, when did he realise that his video had gone viral globally? "When the notifications wouldn’t stop. The trend was everywhere, but once RM and V liked the post, and JK liked and even reposted it, I knew it had hit a completely different level," he said.Jungkook first reposted Akash's video on his profile, and after a few days of the biker trend flooding Instagram, he performed it on his own. Akash says when he saw the BTS member copying him, he felt "surreal." Recalling his emotions, Akash shared, "I was just really happy seeing him on a bike doing that vibe. It’s the ultimate validation when an artist like him recognises your work."
Jungkook's love for trying online dance challenges
Jungkook, known for posting regular dance routines, hopped onto his bike and performed the stunt, giving a nod to Akash's idea. The K-pop star, who recently also took up the viral
BBNO$ Two dance challenge, has been having the best time giving shoutouts to fans' creativity ever since they started posting reels on social media on the tracks of
ARIRANG, also including
SWIM and
2.0. But Jungkook's own clip, based on Akash's stunt, spread like wildfire.
About Hooligan biker video
In the video, just like Akash, even Jungkook keeps his face hidden behind his helmet. It first shows his hands clanking the knives, and in a perfect transition, his fist bump turns into a shot on the bike as he rides on the beats of
Hooligan. Bringing in his impeccable editing skills, Jungkook's reel stood out on Instagram. For Akash, JK is his BTS bias, because "he’s a perfectionist and he’s into cameras and editing just like me. I respect how he masters everything he touches."
Refusing to reveal his identity
Akash has, throughout his work and video, never revealed his face. Is it because he wishes to stay away from recognition? He explained, "I want the focus on the skill and the edit, not my face. The helmet keeps the mystery and lets the work speak for itself."But what happens if he ever meets Jungkook in real? What would he tell the Golden Maknae? Akash gushes, "I don’t even know what I’d say to that, honestly. I just wish it happens one day."Jungkook is currently touring North America with his bandmates RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin and V as part of the ongoing ARIRANG World Tour.
