Frozen released in 2013 and it was a runaway success. The Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen fairytale inspired film saw a sequel in 2019 in Frozen 2. Then Frozen 3 was announced. That was was three years ago. But it turns out, Frozen 3 is finally happening. In the seven years since the release of Frozen 2, there has been a lot of chatter and building anticipation around the third film in the animated franchise. Disney CEO BOB Iger, in 2023 confirmed it. And now, as per latest news, it will release in theatres on November 24, 2027. Jennifer Lee, who co-directed the two previous films will be directing Frozen 3, alongside Trent Correy. Josh Gad, who voices Olaf in the films took to Instagram to share the news. In an image shared by him,
he is seen holding a plush toy of the beloved character while putting up the number three with his fingers. He is joined by Lee, Correy, and producer Christina Chen as they stand in front of Olaf drawings on a whiteboard. Gad's caption reads: "3rd time is always the charm," followed by a snowman emoji and "Time to build another snowman. #frozen3."
Disney, however, has not officially announced that the production of the third part to the animated series is underway, but going by Gad's picture with the directors and producer, it seems that it has started. The Disney theatrical sequel was originally slated for release on November 25, 2026. As per a report in Screenrant, the latest update comes a few month after Josh Gad, Kristen Bell, and Idina Menzel, all grabbed record-breaking deals for Frozen 3 and Frozen 4. All actors are set to make $60 million between the two movies - a number that is the highest any voice actor has received in the history of animation. While Bell and Menzel will reprise their voice roles as sisters Elsa and Anna, Jonathan Groff will return as Kristoff. The original Frozen was a massive global hit, earning approximately $1.28 billion at the worldwide box office during its theatrical run, with around $400.7 million from North America and about $880 million from international markets. The sequel Frozen 2 performed even bigger at the box office, grossing about $1.45 billion worldwide, including approximately $477 million in the US and Canada and roughly $976 million overseas.
