Stranger Things 5 finale showed a happy ending for Sadie Sink's character Max Mayfield as she gets to return to her onscreen boyfriend Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin). But, the reunion wasn't an easy
one. Max, who went into coma following her fight with Vecna in Season 4, was caught up in his mind prison for a long time. Infact, her escape in episode 6 titled Escape from Camazotz became a subject of trolls and memes for unexpected reasons. Sadie, who is next hopping on Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, looked back at the moment that grabbed a lot of eyeballs.
Max's 'podcast' sequence
In the particular scene of
Stranger Things 5's chapter 6, Max and Holly manage to find the exit from Vecna's mind prison. Max then realises only she can return, and hence motivates Holly to stay strong and look for her own way out to escape the clutches of Vecna. She inspires the girl with a monologue. But, for fans, it was a stretched scene that broke the urgency and adrenaline rush of the moment when everyone wanted Max to just jump out of the portal's opening considering how Lucas was fighting the Demogorgons on the other side, protecting Max's motionless body in the real world. Some memes even turned Max's speech into a "podcast" deeming it unnecessary for the plot.
Sadie reacts to memes
Sadie, who appeared in the latest episode of
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, opened up about the particular scene. When host Fallon points whether she's seen fans' reactions, Saide said, "When I was shooting it, I don’t know if the sense of urgency crossed my mind. But watching it, clearly I’m taking my sweet time with it. Like why are we doing a podcast episode right now? Run!" In the final episode 8,
The Rightside Up, Sadie's Max re-enters Vecna's mind along with Eleven and Kali to help the 12 children, including Holly escape. Since she knows every nook and corner of Vecna's mind, her escape route works in the finale.
