while Wolfhard's Stranger Things co-stars Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin joined him to spoof their Netflix series. That's not all; in the audience, more co-stars from the show, including Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, and Wolfhard's on-screen sister Natalia Dyer, were cheering him on in the audience, along with the show creators, Matt and Ross Duffer. Find out more about Wolfhard's SNL debut and the hilarious sketches that are already going viral.
Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin support Finn Wolfhard on Saturday Night Live debut
In his opening monologue, Wolfhard celebrated the ending of the long-running Netflix show as he drank alcohol with his co-stars. He said, "Stranger Things is over, and I’m not a kid anymore." Former host and singer Sabrina Carpenter joined Wolfhard and musical guest A$AP Rocky in a cameo on the comedy sketch about a podcast called
Snack Homiez.
Of course, the show would not be complete without a spoof of
Stranger Things. A fake trailer joked that Netflix was coming back with new sequels, prequels and spinoff series for
Stranger Things. First up was a drama called
Strangerous Minds featuring the character of Steve Harrington. He tells his unruly Los Angeles inner-city students, "You think I don't know what it was like to be a teenager. I was 17 for 10 years."
In
The Wheeler Report, older sister Nancy investigates some of the biggest crimes of the 1990s, including the Tonya Harding incident, the Menendez brothers, and the O.J. Simpson case. As for Mike (Wolfhard) himself, he's starring in a
Sex and the City-style show called
Mike in Manhattan. McLaughlin and Matarazzo show up as Lucas and Dustin, where they discuss their sex lives over drinks. They also mock Will Byers' coming out scene, which was still going on in the show.
The trailer states that everyone gets a show, including Mike's dad.
Saturday Night Live also made fun of
Conformity Gate and the rumoured ninth episode as Keenan Thompson played Eleven with Mike, Lucas and Dustin going to find her at the waterfalls.
Finn Wolfhard plays Harry Potter in viral sketch
The viral sketch of the night belonged to the
Heated Wizardry, a spoof which mashed up the hit Canadian series
Heated Rivalry and
Harry Potter.
In the sketch, Wolfhard played Harry while Ben Marshall played his fellow Gryffindor student Ron Weasley as Quidditch players who fall into a steamy romance. Jason Momoa has a surprise cameo as Rubeus Hagrid on the upcoming HBO series, as he told Wolfhard's Harry, "You’re a homo, Harry."
