Dhanush’s
much-anticipated action thriller Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja, hit theatres on April 30 and opened to mixed reviews. Despite a weekday release, the film managed decent occupancy, especially in urban regions. On its second day, Kara showed solid growth at the box office, indicating a steady upward trend. With its intense story and top performances by its lead cast including Karunas, Jayaram and Suraj Venjaramoodu, the heist thriller continues to attract audiences.
Kara Box Office Day 2: Dhanush Film Steady Growth Despite Mixed Reviews
On Day 2, Kara witnessed a steady rise in collections. According to early estimates, Kara collected Rs 6.95 crore net in India on its second day, marking a 12.1 percent increase from its Day 1 collection of Rs 6.20 crore. The film was screened across 4,181 shows and maintained consistent footfall across key regions. With the addition of Day 2 numbers, the film’s total India gross stands at Rs 15.20 crore, while the net collection has reached Rs 13.15 crore. In overseas markets, Kara earned Rs 2.50 crore on Day 2, taking its total international gross to Rs 5.00 crore. This brings the worldwide gross collection to Rs 20.20 crore, a solid figure for a film with mixed reviews.
The Tamil version continues to dominate the film’s earnings. It collected Rs 5.85 crore on Day 2, with an occupancy rate of 34.0 percent across 2,888 shows. The Telugu version contributed Rs 1.10 crore, recording a 20.0 percent occupancy across 1,293 shows.In Tamil, overall occupancy stood at 30.36 percent. Evening and night occupancies were recorded at 15.90 percent and 16.50 percent.
Tamil Nadu emerged as the biggest contributor, generating Rs 5.85 crore on Day 2. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana followed with Rs 1.28 crore, while Karnataka added Rs 70 lakh. Kerala and the rest of India contributed smaller shares of around Rs 10 lakh each. The total Day 2 gross collection stood at Rs 8.03 crore. Despite this, Kara is Dhanush's lowest-opening film in the last five years. His directorial films Idli Kadai and Raayan continue to top the list.
Kara OTT Release Details
Alongside its theatrical run, Kara is already generating buzz for its OTT release. The digital rights of the film have been acquired by Netflix for a significant price. Although the makers have not announced an official streaming date, the film is expected to premiere online after completing its theatrical run. Based on typical release patterns, Kara is likely to arrive on OTT within four weeks of its theatrical debut.
