Shefali Shah on being typecast in Bollywood
During a candid chat with us, Shefali Shah confessed that her career is an incident. She said, “My career had an incidental start. There was no plan of action or ambition where it was like this where I have to reach. I love what I do. I would choose only such characters which I thought were close to my heart. There was not an agenda. I didn't have any mentor to tell me what is good for me. Talent is not just enough. Luck plays a very big part. I never thought of it. I shouldn't have done some things.”
While speaking about her character in Waqt, where she played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s wife and Akshay Kumar’s mother in the film, Shefali revealed that Vipul Amrutlal Shah had advised her not to take up the role. The Jalsa actress stated, “For example, I should not have done Waqt, where I played a mother to somebody who is much older (Akshay Kumar) than me. I didn't realise that the moment I do this, I will be put into the box. Vipul Amrutlal Shah had told me not to do this role. But I was like, 'I am an actor.' I want to play different people. I did Satya and Monsoon Wedding. After completing the shoot for Monsoon Wedding, I had decided to get married, have children and sit at home. I kept going as and how.” Despite getting love for her performances in films, Shefali Shah didn’t get meaty roles. However, the actress got married at 28 and had children. While speaking about her decision, Shefali stated, “I wish I had gotten much more, but I was 28 when I got married. I had decided that I want to have babies. I was very sure about that. I wanted to be at home and enjoy the moments with my babies. I wanted to clean the potty and iron the nappies. I wanted to do everything. That was my choice. I don't regret it.” Shefali Shah’s last project, Delhi Crime 3, received a lot of love from the masses. It is streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates!
