As
The Family Man 3 promotions continue in full swing, actor Jaideep Ahlawat has sparked an important conversation about emotional conditioning in men. Speaking about how boys are raised with restrictive expectations, the actor reflected on the deeply ingrained mindset that discourages men from expressing vulnerability.
Jaideep on the infamous 'boys don't cry' phrase
During an interaction with
Filmygyan, Jaideep said, “Bacchon ko, mardon ko aisa nahi sirf Haryana mein ye sab jagah hai. Anupaat upar neeche ho sakta hai. Hum sab jagah hai ki bhai to arey tum ladke ho ke ro rahe ho. Pehli line ye aa jaati hai. Bacche ki usi umr mein aa jaati hai. Arey ladka ho ke kaun rota hai be?"(Children and men go through this everywhere, not just in Haryana. Ratios may vary. Everywhere, people say: oh, you are a boy, why are you crying? Kids hear this at a very young age. They are told boys do not cry.)He continued, "To mujhe lagta hai ki uski wajah se expression nahi milta aur jo jab milta hai to tok diya jaata hai ji. To wo andar hi ghut jaata hai to usko lagta hai ki phir isi ko play karte hain. But thoda bahut balance bacha rahega na to sanity bachi rahegi.”(Because of this, they are unable to express themselves, and even when they try, they are shut down. So everything gets suppressed inside, and they feel like they must continue behaving the same way. But if there is some balance, sanity will remain.)
