Delhi Crime 3 Actor Shefali Shah: Girls Will Be Safe If Sons Are Raised Right | Exclusive
Times Now
Shefali Shah is returning as Vartika Chaturvedi in the third season of Delhi Crime . In an exclusive interview with Zoom before the show’s premiere on Netflix, the actress opened up about women’s safety
and why it is important to be aware of what’s going around.
Shefali Shah urges women to take responsibility for their safety
Shefali told us, “As a woman, you have to be aware of what’s going on. You have to keep your antennas up. Yes, it is terrible, but it is my responsibility to be safe. It is sad that I can’t trust anyone with it. First, every woman has gone through a situation, exploitation, been touched inappropriately or been cat-called; the extent of it varies. But if I see an actor on set or a flight feeling uncomfortable, I don’t stop myself from going and asking if she’s okay. This is everyone’s responsibility. To stop it completely, that’s the ideal world. We can’t stop it completely, so we have to be aware and try to protect as much as possible.”ALSO READ: Delhi Crime 3's Rasika Dugal Says Women Are Easily Tagged 'Difficult': No One Takes Females In Authority With Grace | EXCLUSIVE
'Raise sons right'
She further added, "How women are treated is despicable. I agree that men need to keep their eyes open because not all men are perpetrators. In an ideal world, why are we adjusting according to what happens rather than saying this shouldn’t happen at all? That’s the ideal world. When will it happen? I don’t know. I do believe that our girls will be safe if our sons are raised right, but that’s not going to happen tomorrow; it’s a long, long way to go. Having said that, yes, women, no matter what they’re wearing, no matter the situation, no matter the strata or position, will have to go through something.” The actress continued, "When I did Monsoon Wedding, we friends were talking and suddenly everyone had a story, the degree varies. Somebody must have been cat-called, somebody sadly gone through molestation; the degree varies. Almost every woman goes through it. Having said that, yes, I want an ideal world, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with protecting yourself very fiercely. It’s just you; you have to do it. There’s nothing wrong with it. I’m not trying to say whether you should do it or not, but just take care of yourself. It’s my personal responsibility to look after myself. If I can remember to protect myself, I’ll catch something and also protect someone else, whether I know the person or not.” Delhi Crime 3 also stars Huma Qureshi, Rasika Dugal, Sayani Gupta, Rajesh Tailang and others.
