The actress admitted there was a point when she struggled so badly financially that she could barely pay for essentials like rent, insurance and pension premiums. Eventually, the stress forced her to move back in with her parents while she continued chasing acting opportunities. Gong Seung-Yeon shared that she became desperate to prove herself and constantly requested her agency to send her to auditions. She even wrote letters to casting directors in hopes of getting selected for projects.

At the same time, her younger sister Jeongyeon was rapidly becoming one of the biggest K-pop stars in the world through TWICE. The stark contrast between their careers deeply affected Gong Seung-Yeon emotionally. Talking about the complicated emotions she experienced, the actress admitted that her sister’s success felt comforting and painful at the same time. “I was happy that my sister was doing well,” Gong Seung-Yeon confessed. However, she added that as the eldest child, she also felt intense pressure to succeed first and support the family.“But I also harbored the oldest child’s mindset of ‘I have to do even better,’” she said.The actress further explained that her mother also hoped her eldest daughter would become successful and help guide the younger siblings forward. Because of that expectation, Gong Seung-Yeon sometimes felt like she was falling behind while watching Jeongyeon rise to international fame. “There were times when I felt like, as an older sister, I was falling short compared to my younger sister,” she admitted honestly.Today, both sisters continue enjoying successful careers in different corners of the Korean entertainment industry.
