Farhan Akhtar breaks silence on Don 3 controversy
Farhan Akhtar’s last directorial venture was Don 2, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Since then, anticipation around a third film in the Don franchise has remained high. After years, Ranveer Singh was announced as the new Don, stepping into a legacy previously defined by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. However, the excitement soon gave way to controversy after reports emerged that Singh had walked out of the film post Dhurandhar.According to reports, Farhan Akhtar’s banner Excel Entertainment approached the Producers Guild of India, alleging that Ranveer Singh’s last-minute exit caused losses of approximately Rs 40 crore. On the other hand, the actor reportedly cited unprofessionalism and delays, claiming that Akhtar was preoccupied with other commitments, which impacted the film’s progress.
Breaking his silence in a recent interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan Akhtar chose a subtle tone rather than addressing the controversy directly because the matter is still ongoing. Without naming Ranveer Singh, he said, “What I've learned is I mean just to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film. You know that's really what it is."Talking about his journey, Farhan said, "From the time that I began - from that moment that Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia, Saif Ali Khan and Ritesh Sidhwani, as my partner, till they came on they said yes let's make this film - from that moment on I've had the most incredible ride.” He continued that he has always worked with people he wanted to and it has been amazing. However, hardships are part of a showbix career and Farhan added, "You realise that at some point, there will be a period that's going to be a little bit more challenging." He said that you just 'take it in your stride' and continue working creatively.
Farhan will make Don 3
Despite the setbacks, Akhtar has made it clear that Don 3 is a story that still remains close to his heart. He described it as one of the projects he is deeply invested in creatively, hinting that the film is not shelved but still in development. He called it an 'incredible story', which gives hope that the superhit franchise will live on. While the casting and timeline are still uncertain, his statement will give hope to a lot of Don fans. As for the controversy with Ranveer Singh, there have been contrasting reports about it being settled, but there has been no official announcement yet.
