Priyanka
Chopra Jonas has finally addressed the persistent rumours surrounding her marriage to Nick Jonas, shutting down conspiracy theories that label their relationship a “PR stunt.” In January, a Golden Globes 2026 red carpet video sparked fresh speculation online - with social media users dissecting their body language and even questioning why they were seen separately at one point. The actor has made it clear she is no longer affected by such chatter. Opening up about the scrutiny, age gap criticism and intercultural differences, Priyanka admitted that while the comments once hurt, she has now learned to tune them out.
Priyanka responds to criticism of her marriage with Nick Jonas
The latest round of rumours began after clips from the
Golden Globes went viral, with some netizens claiming the couple looked distant or staged. The chatter intensified with theories suggesting their marriage was on the brink of collapse. However, the speculation ignored the fact that Chopra Jonas and Nick were spotted together shortly after at the Netflix after-party, putting many rumours to rest.
Still, the performative couple on the brink of divorce narrative continues to resurface, something Priyanka says she has stopped trying to understand. “We’re eight years in,” she said. “If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it.”
Priyanka recalls being hurt by conspiracy theories
While she now brushes off the noise, Priyanka admitted that the early days of their marriage were not immune to public judgment. Much of the criticism focused on their 10-year age gap, with Chopra Jonas being older than Nick, as well as their intercultural and interfaith backgrounds. “I don’t know what was it about us that rubbed people the wrong way,” she shared. “I think there was the intercultural nature of it - different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful.” Rather than allowing the negativity to divide them, Priyanka revealed that they chose to turn inward for support. "We were like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ So it’s like water off a duck’s back now," added Desi Girl.
Priyanka-Nick's whirlwind wedding
The couple tied the knot in 2018 after a whirlwind romance, getting married within six months of meeting. Reflecting on that phase, Priyanka admitted she initially questioned whether everything felt too perfect to be real. The Varanasi heroine recalled, "When I first married him, I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like, ‘This is crazy. This is put on.'" However, she soon realised that Nick’s sincerity was genuine, and one of the qualities she admires most about him. She confidently states that whatever the conversation is, Nick is always 'sincere.'
Now parents to a daughter Malti Marie Jonas and nearly eight years into their marriage, Priyanka and Nick are unfazed by online conspiracies. If anything, the scrutiny seems to have strengthened their bond.
