the peak of Kahiin To Hoga, Rajeev Khandelwal, who popularised the character of Sujal, quit the show. He wanted to experiment with various projects and did the critically acclaimed cult film, Aamir, after leaving the popular daily soap co-starring Aamna Sharif. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Khandelwal recalled articles being written that discouraged his decision to leave an established career in television and move out of a Balaji Telefilms project at its peak. The actor further said the decision was difficult, but people around him made it worse by calling it ‘suicide’.
Rajeev Khandelwal on quitting Kahiin To Hoga
Rajeev said, "There was no social media, so articles were being written saying ‘he thinks he’s too large for his boots’. Everyone tries to drill into that insecurity. Probably, it was their insecurity which they are trying to drill into me. I know that it was not easy, but it made my battle even more exciting. I knew that they were not wrong when they were offended because I was offending them. It's all about business by the end of it.”
Grudge with Ekta Kapoor?
He added, “If they are not appreciating or not liking the fact that I'm leaving a show when it is at its peak, I am actually jeopardising their show, which probably would make a lot of money for the platform, for the channel and for the production house. I don't think even I would have liked it, and I was prepared for it, but I did it in a manner that they would always remember that I wasn't unprofessional. Whether it is Jeetendra uncle, Shobha aunty or Ekta, they know I was not being unprofessional and deep inside their hearts, they would know that he's not leaving it because of his idiosyncrasy but on purpose.”
Ekta's professional hatred towards Rajeev?
Rajeev further mentioned that he made Ekta understand the purpose behind his exit. “I thought if they have the gravitas, they will take some time but will understand what I was doing, which they did. Ekta called me back for some other shows, and I would like to believe that she didn't hold any grudge personally against me. It was a very professional hatred or dislike, which is understandable and justified as well,” he concluded. Rajeev’s latest show, Amar Vishwas, premiered on Amazon MX Player on February 11. It is based on the acclaimed novels by Suhas Shirvalkar. Amar Vishwas is created and produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar.
