Govind
Namdev has distanced himself from the upcoming film Kala Hiran that has already run into controversy. The veteran actor claimed he was not aware of the real story of the project and that the makers did not tell him fully about the nature of the film when he agreed to be part of it. Trouble for the movie began when its first-look teaser, which seemingly suggested that it was based on the much talked about 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving actor Salman Khan, was released. A character whose look and styling has reminded many viewers of Bollywood's Bhaijaan is featured in the teaser, while Namdev plays the role of a lawyer allegedly representing the Bishnoi community.
Govind Namdev clarifies his stance on Kala Hiran
Speaking to Amar Ujala, Govind Namdev revealed he was shocked and disappointed after watching the teaser. According to him, the final product was quite different from the one he shot for, as they weren't aware that a character "resembling Salman Khan" would be created and portrayed in this manner."The moment I saw the trailer, I felt I had been kept in the dark and used. There is a world of difference between what I was told and what has actually been made," Namdev said. "I would never do a film against Salman Khan," the actor added.
Kala Hiran was initially Sambhal?
The actor said he was approached initially for a project called Sambhal and was told that his role would be limited to courtroom sequences based on publicly available legal proceedings. He said he thought the film would just show facts already recorded in court and did not realise it would become a project that seemed to focus on a character similar to Salman Khan.Namdev said that he shares a good equation with
Salman Khan, and he would never intentionally act in a film that is aimed at targeting or showing the superstar in a bad light. He said that if he had known the real direction of the project, he would have thought about pulling out."I understood the film to be about the legal proceedings in the blackbuck case, and not to be a dramatised or fictionalised version of real-life personalities," the actor further explained. But after viewing the teaser, he felt important information about the film was kept from him.
Actor reacts to Bishnoi community's threats to Salman
The actor was also worried about the project's association with the Bishnoi community and the bigger controversy about people who have threatened Salman Khan in public in recent years. Namdev said he does not support any gang or extremist activities, and said he was uncomfortable being associated with such narratives.
Salman Khan's case against Kala Hiran makers
The issue has gained more limelight as Salman Khan has already lodged a legal case against the makers of
Kala Hiran. The actor's legal team has requested the court to block the release of the film and to withdraw its promotional material. His petition reportedly claims that the project uses elements heavily connected to his public image, including visual cues and styling, and tells a story that could mislead audiences. While viewers continue to discuss obvious parallels, the film's makers have insisted the characters and events are fictional. The film is reportedly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck incident, although the promotional material states that any resemblance to real people is purely coincidental.
